Texas Medical Board approves exceptions for doctors to perform abortions | FOX 7 Austin

Published

on

www.youtube.com – FOX 7 Austin – 2024-06-21 22:17:26

SUMMARY: The Texas Medical Board approved new rules regarding exceptions to the state's abortion ban, including defining ectopic pregnancy and clarifying that doctors can act before life-threatening conditions occur. The changes aim to address concerns about the clarity of the law, as the Texas Supreme Court stated exceptions are broad enough to allow abortions when a mother's is in danger. This followed a lawsuit from women with severe pregnancy complications seeking clarity. The rules don't list specific conditions for exceptions, emphasizing medical judgment. Doctors must provide documentation within seven days explaining the need for an abortion, and previous requirements to transfer patients have been removed.

The Texas Medical Board unanimously approved guidelines for how doctors should interpret exceptions to the state's abortion ban.
