SUMMARY: A student was able to bring a gun onto Wilmer Hutchins High School in Dallas ISD, where he shot and injured another student. The district cited a failure to strictly follow safety protocols for allowing the incident to occur. The metal detectors at the school were working, but staff failed to properly check the student’s bag. After the shooting, new safety measures were implemented, including increased personnel during arrival and dismissal, and retraining staff on security procedures. Parents expressed frustration and concerns about security protocols not being followed, leading to some teachers being placed on administrative leave for participating in a walkout.

A Wilmer-Hutchins High School student charged with shooting a fellow student got the gun on campus through the metal detectors because his backpack wasn’t checked properly, a Dallas ISD trustee says.

SUMMARY: The content discusses the importance of digital marketing for businesses in the modern age. It highlights the need for a strong online presence, the use of social media platforms, and the importance of SEO to drive traffic to websites. The article also emphasizes the role of content marketing in engaging with customers and building brand awareness. It concludes with the recommendation for businesses to invest in digital marketing strategies to stay competitive in today's market and reach a wider audience. Overall, the message is clear: digital marketing is crucial for businesses looking to succeed and grow in the digital world.

When local newspapers shrink or shutter, it leaves a gap in news access that other outlets struggle to fill, causing news deserts — communities without reliable local news sources. Texans in news deserts struggle to navigate misinformation and often grow to mistrust the media and other institutions.

On Thursday, May 9, The Texas Tribune hosted “We the Texans: Local news and democracy,” as part of our yearlong initiative examining the state of democracy in Texas. In this solutions-focused conversation, Nic Garcia, the Tribune's regions editor, talks with media experts and community leaders about the challenges local communities face and what can be done to ensure Texans across the state have access to reliable local news.

Expect a summer of teacher turnover and more job cuts for Houston ISD

Published

www.youtube.com – KPRC 2 Click2Houston – 2024-05-09 22:12:02

SUMMARY: Houston Independent School District had to close a $450 million budget gap for next year without impacting the classroom. Despite this effort, dozens of teachers and principals are being laid off due to bad budgeting practices, including using emergency relief money for recurring expenses. Teachers are not being let go because of the budget gap, but for other reasons such as performance. The district is confident they can replace the non-renewed educators with trained and experienced staff. The decision-making process for letting go of employees is based on various factors, with notifications already being sent out to those affected.

Expect a lot of teacher turnover this summer in Houston ISD. And more job cuts are coming for other staff, including custodial and maintenance workers.
