Published

on

www.youtube.com – FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth – 2024-05-19 22:20:13

SUMMARY: The issue in Texas is the debate over offering economically challenged Americans a guaranteed monthly income. Attorney General Ken Paxton challenged a controversial Harris County plan to provide $500 monthly stipends to low-income recipients via a lottery. Critics argue that Harris County should focus on more pressing challenges like an overcrowded jail and an underpaid workforce instead of handing out cash. The program has faced criticism for potentially buying votes and government dependency. The legality and effectiveness of the program are being questioned, with the Texas Supreme Court likely to review it. The debate continues on whether guaranteed income should be prioritized with limited taxpayer dollars.

Harris County is looking to give some resident free money as a part of a Universal Basic Income program. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has stepped in to stop it. The FOX Texas Trio discuss the program and what they think will happen to it.
