SUMMARY: Two and a half weeks after a severe thunderstorm struck Northeast Dallas, residents at The Meadows at Ferguson apartment complex remain in distress. The storm, with winds reaching 80 mph, caused power outages and significant damage. Residents, including single mother Britney Williams, still live in unsafe conditions with insufficient funds to relocate. Despite notices to vacate, many struggle to move due to financial constraints. Key City Capital, the property owner, offered alternatives at higher rents but cannot cover moving costs. The company's CEO empathizes but faces city fines and pressures. A $4 million renovation for The Meadows is planned but ongoing.

Two-and-a-half weeks after a powerful thunderstorm knocked out power, knocked down trees and caused damage to homes and structures in Dallas, some are still wondering what they should do next.

Supreme Court strikes down Trump-era ban on bump stocks

Published

www.youtube.com – FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth – 2024-06-14 17:16:16

SUMMARY: The Supreme Court struck down a federal ATF ban on bump stocks, which were used in the 2017 Las Vegas Massacre, the deadliest mass shooting by a single gunman in U.S. history. The issue was whether ATF had overstepped its authority by reclassifying bump stocks as machine guns. In a 6-3 decision, the Court ruled that ATF cannot rewrite laws passed by Congress. Justice Clarence Thomas argued that bump stocks do not turn semi-automatic weapons into machine guns. The decision highlighted the need for congressional action to regulate such devices, as current ATF authority is limited to specific firearm types.

The Supreme Court on Friday struck down a Trump-era ban on bump stocks, a gun accessory that allows semi-automatic weapons to fire rapidly like machine guns and was used in the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.
