New technology by Petco Love Foundation helps reunite lost pets with their owners

SUMMARY: Nearly 10 million pets go missing annually, with many ending up in overcrowded shelters. To address this, a nonprofit launched a free national lost and found database using image recognition technology, akin to facial recognition, to help reunite pets with their owners. Pet owners are urged to create profiles on Petco Love’s platform, preloading pet information to expedite the search if a pet goes missing. This system integrates with social media and apps like Ring, streamlines the matching process, eases the stress of losing a pet, and alleviates shelter overcrowding. Personal information remains protected, ensuring secure use.

It’s a sign as old as canine and feline – flyers of missing pets posted around town. But is there a more effective way of getting your pet home sooner and safely?
