SUMMARY: A 36-year-old woman with a history of mental illness and arrests opened fire inside a Houston megachurch using a legally purchased AR 15 rifle, critically injuring her seven-year-old son. The woman was killed by off-duty security officers who exchanged gunfire with her, and the motive is still unknown. Investigators found anti-Semitic writings belonging to the woman and described a dispute between her and her ex-husband’s Jewish family. The woman’s history included being placed under emergency detention in 2016 and a long criminal record for assault, forgery, drugs, and weapons violations. The FBI is investigating how she was able to purchase the weapons given her background.

What investigators say they know so far is that 36-year-old Genesse Moreno parked her SUV at the church entrance at 1:53 p.m. Sunday, hiding two rifles under a trench coat, wearing a backpack, with her 7 year-old son in tow.

Senator John Cornyn indicated bailing out on both, which may not be a good idea. However, a UT poll shows that Texans are split on global intervention, with many relating it to the border crisis. There is debate about supporting Ukraine versus prioritizing American needs. Former President Trump’s comments on NATO and Ukraine aid have stirred controversy, potentially affecting the upcoming elections. There are discussions about attaching a border bill to the Senate plan to break the logjam and unlock funding for Ukraine.
