Austin opioid overdose outbreak: Narcan kits distributed across Travis County | FOX 7 Austin
SUMMARY: Congressman Lloyd Dogget secured 2 million in federal funding to address the opioid crisis, with a focus on distributing 7500 Naran kits in Austin. Naran is a drug that can reverse overdoses from any type of opioid by attaching to and replacing the opioids in the brain’s receptors. If you suspect an opioid overdose, call 911, administer Naran, and wait for EMS to arrive. The Naran kits can wear off quickly, so another dose may be needed. This initiative highlights the importance of collaboration in addressing the crisis and serves as an example for other cities and organizations across the United States.
Thousands of life-saving overdoses response kits will be given around Travis County. The city, county and federal leaders announced continuing efforts to fight the opioid crisis.
