SUMMARY: In the aftermath of last week’s storm, many are focused on cleanup and repair. Investigative reporter Amy Davis warns against opportunistic contractors who may take advantage in these situations. Homeowners should contact their insurance companies before hiring contractors, and background check any potential hires. Be cautious of signing contingency contracts, as these may bind you to a contractor before knowing your insurance payout. Check references, verify business legitimacy through online searches, and even contact supply companies to ensure contractors are financially reputable. Prioritize and research thoroughly to avoid issues with unexpectedly poor or fraudulent service.

KPRC 2 investigative reporter Amy Davis shares what homeowners need to look out for when it comes to filing insurance claims.
