SUMMARY: Janice Lockett is the buyer for the City of Galveston's sea operations. She started as an office assistant in the public works department before being encouraged to apply for her current position. Lockett handles bids, RFP openings, and co-op contracts, acting as a liaison between vendors and the city's internal departments. She emphasizes the importance of documenting every purchase made with P cards and ensuring that all employees turn in their receipts. Lockett incorporates her daughter, Gianna Joelle, known as GGG, into the city's promotional videos. She sees the City of Galveston as a place for growth and highlights the need for organizational skills in her role.

Ja'Nice began her career in 2015 as an Office Assistant for the Public Works Department. Her constant dedication, passion and diligence, helped her grow professionally and in less than 3 years she became the Purchasing Buyer for the City.

Ja'Nice is committed to her work and her family. She is a BOI with deep roots in the community. Her grandfather was a firefighter for the Galveston Fire Department and she is proud to keep serving the community with work ethic and passion, just like he did.

West Texas sees of state’s strongest earthquakes ever, shakes felt in DFW

SUMMARY: Today, a magnitude 5.1 earthquake, one of the strongest in Texas history, struck near Hermleigh, west of Abilene, around 9:30 AM. It’s part of a series of recent quakes, including a magnitude 4.9 on Monday and a magnitude 2.5 on Thursday. SMU professor Brian Stump explained that the seismic waves were felt as far as Dallas. While it’s common to experience magnitude 5 quakes nationwide, the back-to-back events in West Texas warrant monitoring. The cause remains unclear, but potential links to man-made activities like fracking need investigation. The Texas Department of Emergency Management is assessing the damage.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, there was a magnitude 5.1 earthquake at 9:28 a.m. on Friday in West Texas. The tremors were felt all the way in Dallas-Fort Worth.
