Doctors, women seek more clarity from Texas Medical Board on state abortion laws

SUMMARY: The Texas State Medical Board heard public comments seeking clarification on when doctors can legally perform abortions under state law. Earlier this year, the board issued a broad definition of “medical emergency,” but many are calling for more specificity. Over 30 virtual testimonies were given by doctors, women involved in lawsuits for clarity, and their lawyers. The Texas Medical Board issued new guidelines in March for investigating prohibited abortions, but some find them confusing. Critics argue the proposed rules will further complicate matters. The board will consider feedback and meet again in June for further discussions but lacks lawmaking authority.

In a public hearing Monday, a group of doctors, women and their lawyers urged the board to clarify when a doctor can legally perform an abortion under the state's near-total ban.

SUMMARY: The University of Texas system is disciplining students arrested during Pro-Palestinian protests, including temporarily withholding degrees. Nearly a month after UT Dallas's graduation, criminal proceedings and disciplinary actions remain unresolved for some students. Despite a return to normalcy on campuses, UT Dallas and UT Austin are enforcing measures against students arrested for criminal trespassing after refusing to dismantle their protest encampments. The universities emphasize that these actions are for policy violations, not the act of protesting. Disciplinary measures range from warnings to withholding degrees, with sanctions lifted once the conduct process is completed. UT Dallas declined to comment on ongoing measures.

Sex offender in Mesquite kidnapping case found living near parks, schools

Published

www.youtube.com – FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth – 2024-06-12 21:52:55

SUMMARY: Doyle Tipton, a registered low-risk sex offender in Hunt County, is accused of attempting to kidnap and sexually assault a 10-year-old girl near his secondary address in Dallas County. The girl, who had been reported as a runaway, managed to escape and sought help at a nearby fire station. Tipton, who has a history of multiple sex crime convictions, reportedly tried to drive the girl away in a red van after picking her up. Tipton's neighbors, unaware of his offender status, expressed shock. Authorities are investigating Tipton's involvement in other cases. Tipton remains registered with Texas DPS and checks in annually.

It appears Doyle Tipton was not living at the home he reported to state registry officials. Instead, he was living in an apartment complex near parks and schools and just blocks away from where he allegedly kidnapped a 10-year-old girl.
