Dallas City Council bans short-term rentals from single-family areas

Published

on

SUMMARY: The Dallas City Council has passed a plan to eliminate most short-term rentals across the city. Single-family homes will no longer be allowed to function as Airbnb or similar rentals. Short-term rentals will only be permitted in places like apartments if there is dedicated parking and the owner registers and pays a fee. The decision came after numerous complaints from residents about disruptive party houses. Short-term rental operators voiced concerns about the impact on their businesses. The council voted in favor of the ban, with the City Attorney's office confirming its legal right to define short-term rentals as lodging use. Some compromises were made, allowing a limited number of short-term rentals in certain residential areas.

The council voted on the issue a little before midnight, after more than four hours of testimony from dozens of people on both sides of the emotional issue.
