SUMMARY: A massive wildfire in the Texas Panhandle has surpassed the Bastrop Complex Fire in size, becoming the largest wildfire in state history. Firefighters from the Austin metro area are battling the Smokehouse Creek Fire, covering over a million acres. Efforts are being made to protect livestock and save homes. Strong winds are expected to return, posing challenges for firefighters. Travis County ESD teams are aiding in the suppression efforts. One death has been reported, and several homes and thousands of cows have been destroyed. The community is rallying together to support those affected by the devastating wildfire.

The wildfire in the Panhandle has grown larger than the massive Bastrop Complex Fire that hit central Texas in 2011. Several Austin-area firefighters are battling the blaze in the Panhandle.
