Woman sentenced for killing off-duty officer while intoxicated | FOX 7 Austin

SUMMARY: Sunday will be difficult for Jeffrey Richardson's family, marking their second Father's Day without him. A 35-year-old Reserve officer for the Poti Police Department, Jeffrey was a dedicated family man and loved by many. On June 29, 2022, while directing traffic near The Domain, he was struck by 26-year-old Lindsay Smith, who had consumed several alcoholic drinks. Richardson died from his injuries. Smith performed sobriety tests at the scene and later admitted to excessive drinking. She was sentenced to 18 years in prison and fined $10,000 after pleading guilty to intoxicated manslaughter. The case underscores the severe consequences of drunk driving.

A Travis County jury sentenced a woman to 18 years in prison for killing a police officer while driving intoxicated. Lindsay Smith pleaded guilty earlier this week to killing Jeffrey Richardson.
