Texas shooting spree: Residents question emergency alert protocols | FOX 7 Austin
SUMMARY: Over the course of eight hours and roughly 20 miles, seven people were shot and four died in a potential targeted attack in Central Texas. Despite this, residents in the area were not notified of the danger by authorities. The lack of notification sparked concern among the community, who felt that they should have been informed about the ongoing threat. Law enforcement agencies explained that certain criteria were not met to issue an active shooter alert at the time, and that there was no indication of an ongoing threat to the public. However, the situation raised questions about the effectiveness of emergency notification systems in the area.
We continue to learn more about the timeline of last week’s shooting spree that left six people dead between Austin and San Antonio. There’s something that keeps coming up: why were residents not notified there was a shooter on the run in their area?

Round Rock ISD police chief leaves role, claims district did not report student sexual assault to po
SUMMARY: Round Rock ISD Board of Trustee Daniel Weston blames the superintendent for recent issues in the school district, stating that “a fish rots from the head.” Despite the district’s efforts to address concerns, Weston and other trustees believe that two members are exacerbating the situation by releasing personal information. There were reservations about hiring Police Chief Dennis Weiner due to past accusations, and an investigation later revealed a negative and chaotic environment within the police department. Weston expressed fears for the safety of students and staff, questioning the ability of officers to protect them amidst internal turmoil. The board was disappointed by the release of sensitive information and emphasized the importance of addressing security concerns.
A letter from Round Rock ISD police chief Dennis Weiner to the district superintendent reveals new details about his sudden departure from the department.
