SUMMARY: Federal investigators are examining how 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks managed to shoot at former President Trump despite heavy law enforcement presence. The FBI is treating the case as an attempted assassination and domestic terrorism but has found no clear motive or social media clues. Crooks, from near Pittsburgh, had bomb-making materials in his vehicle and home. Records show conflicting political affiliations, and former acquaintances describe him as a troubled, isolated individual. Positioned on a roof, Crooks confronted a local officer before the attack. Former fire chief Corey Comparator was killed, with two others seriously wounded. Authorities stress resolving political disputes peacefully.

The FBI is talking to the family of Trump rally shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks. At this point, they have not been able to find social media posts or other writing to shed light on his thinking.
