Lawmakers open investigation into US Postal Service after death of Dallas mail carrier
SUMMARY: A group of U.S. lawmakers is launching an inquiry into the U.S. Postal Service after a mail carrier in Dallas died during extreme heat. The congresswoman leading the inquiry hopes to see changes made quickly, especially with more hot weather expected this summer. The mail carrier’s wife is still seeking answers and believes the heat is to blame for his death. Similar incidents, including the death of a mail carrier in California in 2019, have prompted the congressional investigation. The lawmakers are questioning the Postal Service’s response to heat-related concerns and whether they prioritize repairs and replacements in areas with extreme heat. The wife of the deceased mail carrier wants action to prevent further tragedies.

Universal Basic Income goes to Texas Supreme Court
SUMMARY: The issue in Texas is the debate over offering economically challenged Americans a guaranteed monthly income. Attorney General Ken Paxton challenged a controversial Harris County plan to provide $500 monthly stipends to low-income recipients via a lottery. Critics argue that Harris County should focus on more pressing challenges like an overcrowded jail and an underpaid workforce instead of handing out cash. The program has faced criticism for potentially buying votes and government dependency. The legality and effectiveness of the program are being questioned, with the Texas Supreme Court likely to review it. The debate continues on whether guaranteed income should be prioritized with limited taxpayer dollars.
Harris County is looking to give some resident free money as a part of a Universal Basic Income program. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has stepped in to stop it. The FOX Texas Trio discuss the program and what they think will happen to it.
