Growing concern over rise of uncertified teachers in Texas | FOX 7 Austin
SUMMARY: In tonight's Fox 7 Focus, Dr. Heath Morrison discusses the rise of uncertified teachers in Texas Public Schools, due to districts of innovation allowing for hiring without certification. Before the pandemic, there were 2-3,000 uncertified teachers, but now there are over 177,000. Uncertified teachers tend to leave after 3 years and lack preparation in lesson construction and classroom management. Dr. Morrison emphasizes the need to support and certify these teachers, and suggests legislative action in the future. He believes in enhancing the teaching profession and ensuring proper compensation. The goal is to provide a pathway for uncertified teachers to become certified.
Concerns are growing over the sharp increase in uncertified teachers working in Texas public schools. Should you be worried about the quality of your child's education? FOX 7's John Krinjak takes a closer look.
