SUMMARY: Charles Olen is the retiring Fire Chief of the Fire Department, having served for 33 years. He began in 1989, progressing through the ranks and taking on roles such as chairman of the Board and being on the pension board. Olen has enjoyed his time with the department, particularly valuing community service and camaraderie. He's proud of recent city improvements and appreciates support from colleagues. Retiring on July 1st, Olen plans to spend time with his wife, travel, and see his grandchildren, while remaining available to help the community. He anticipates possibly finding new activities in a year or two.

After 33 years of devoted service to the Galveston Fire Department, Chief Charles Olsen will retire on July 1st. We express our sincere gratitude for Chief Olsen's dedicated service and wish him a wonderful retirement!

Police chase ends in shootout in Midlothian, suspect injured

Here & Now: The North Texas Behavioral Health Authority

SUMMARY: The North Texas Behavioral Authority (NTBHA) has received a $1.25 million state grant to create a Youth Crisis Outreach Team (YCOT), a pilot program aimed at addressing youth mental health crises. The team will consist of six specialized staff who will work in six counties, responding to crises involving children and adolescents. The YCOT, an extension of the existing Mobile Crisis Outreach Team (MCOT), will provide trauma-informed care and support to families in various settings, including homes, schools, and juvenile justice facilities. The program aims to reduce law enforcement interventions and emergency room visits by offering targeted, in-home care for up to 90 days.
