Demand on Texas power grid expected to nearly double in six years | FOX 7 Austin

SUMMARY: The Senate Business and Commerce Committee meeting was filled to capacity, reflecting Texas' rising electricity demand. ERCOT and PUC leaders testified about a multi-billion dollar loan program that has attracted 125 power plant projects, totaling $39 billion in investments. These new plants will take years to build, and by 2030, power demand is expected to nearly double from 85 to 150 GW due to factors like AI and cryptocurrency mining, along with traditional industries. Concerns were raised about the cost burden on residents, with 30-40% of utility bills already covering transmission. Building new transmission lines may require additional legislative funding.

The demand for electricity in Texas will dramatically increase in the next few years. A hearing was held at the Texas Capitol on whether efforts to redesign the grid can meet that demand in time.

Trump rally shooter investigation: How did it happen?

Published

on

www.youtube.com – FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth – 2024-07-15 18:30:55

SUMMARY: The investigation into the shooting at Trump's Pennsylvania rally focuses on two main points: the shooter's motivation and security failures. The FBI is examining Thomas Matthew Crook's history, his laptop, and an explosive device found in his car with his family cooperating. Despite people spotting Crook on the roof before the shooting and alerting police, the response was slow. There's an emphasis on understanding the communication breakdown between the Secret Service and local authorities. An independent review is planned, and increased security measures have been implemented. Crook appears to have acted alone without clear ideological motives. The Secret Service's reliance on local law enforcement is under scrutiny.

Ex-FBI agent Kenneth Gray and security consultant Craig Miller discuss how outdoor events are protected and the importance of communication between the Secret Service and local police.
