Austin Animal Shelter at capacity, creates ‘urgent placement list’ | FOX 7 Austin
SUMMARY: The Austin Animal Center is urgently seeking placement for 29 dogs on the euthanasia list due to overcrowding. They are offering waived adoption fees and incentives to rescue partners, but the shelter is still at capacity. The shelter is hoping for community support and city funding to prevent euthanasia as a last resort. The staff is working diligently to find solutions and avoid making difficult decisions. Public help is needed to provide these dogs with a chance for a new home and avoid euthanasia. The shelter is committed to finding alternatives and remains hopeful for a positive outcome.
The Austin Animal Center is at capacity, so much so that the shelter has created what they call an urgent placement list. About 30 dogs need to be fostered or adopted soon, otherwise they might be euthanized.

Universal Basic Income goes to Texas Supreme Court
SUMMARY: The issue in Texas is the debate over offering economically challenged Americans a guaranteed monthly income. Attorney General Ken Paxton challenged a controversial Harris County plan to provide $500 monthly stipends to low-income recipients via a lottery. Critics argue that Harris County should focus on more pressing challenges like an overcrowded jail and an underpaid workforce instead of handing out cash. The program has faced criticism for potentially buying votes and government dependency. The legality and effectiveness of the program are being questioned, with the Texas Supreme Court likely to review it. The debate continues on whether guaranteed income should be prioritized with limited taxpayer dollars.
