Why did Nikki Haley outperform Donald Trump in Austin?
SUMMARY: As campaign season heats up, politicians are ramping up their rhetoric. To help cut through the noise, Campaign Context is launching a series to provide clarity on the messages from candidates. The analysis of precinct-level primary results in Texas shows President Biden dominating the Democratic primary and former President Trump winning the Republican primary statewide. However, in Austin, Nikki Haley had strong support, likely due to low Republican voter turnout and the city’s more liberal tendencies. Republicans are confident Haley supporters will rally behind Trump in the general election. Winning Texas is crucial for Trump, while Biden has a path to victory with or without the state.
