A tour of the almost-finished Rainey Street Trailhead project

SUMMARY: AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Trail Conservancy is introducing a new park at the Rainey Street Trailhead this summer. This nonprofit aims to enhance and protect Austin's trails, breaking ground on the project in September, with planning starting in 2019. Located between Cummings Street and East Avenue, the two-acre park was formerly just mowed Bermuda grass. The park will feature seating areas, a nature play area for children, native plants, and a floating dock. Executive projects director Charlotte Tonsor provided a tour, highlighting that the park is expected to open in mid-July.

Windwater Drive investigation: 2 men dead after apparent drowning in small lake in SE Houston, officials say

SUMMARY: Two men died in a suspected drowning incident in southeast Houston, according to the Houston Police Department (HPD). Officers from Clear Lake responded to a call Monday afternoon regarding a body discovered by a passerby near a small, man-made lake on Windwater Drive. The Houston Fire Department found a second body in the lake. The victims, both Hispanic men of unknown ages, may have been in the water since the weekend. HPD reported no signs of foul play and is investigating whether the men lived in a nearby apartment complex.

Babbling Creek Drive shooting: Byron Keith Hall charged in woman’s murder after allegedly firing shots at officers in Kingwood

SUMMARY: Byron Keith Hall, 29, has been accused of murdering Taylor Jewell Ben in Kingwood, Texas, and firing shots at responding officers on Sunday. The Houston Police discovered Ben’s body with two children hiding nearby. Hall surrendered at the scene and allegedly ambushed the officers, whose vehicle sustained multiple gunshots. Neighbors heard the gunfire and were shocked by the incident’s severity. Hall, previously charged for assaulting a public servant and indecent exposure, now faces charges of murder, aggravated assault, and assault of a public servant. He is currently in jail and is scheduled for a court appearance on May 29.
