Only one Kentucky Derby starting gate number has never seen a winner
SUMMARY: Post position 17 at the Kentucky Derby has never produced a winner, despite the success of post position 5 with 10 winners. Fierceness, the favorite, was set to try to break the curse but was moved to post position 16 after a late scratch. Stronghold will now be starting in post position 17 with 20-to-1 odds. Horse racing handicapper Michael Dempsey believes that the outside posts may not be a disadvantage. In addition to post position 17, post positions 6 and 11 also have low winning percentages of 2.1 and 2.4, respectively.

Houston Heights storm recovery: 175-foot crane needed to remove giant tree from roof of home after severe weather event
SUMMARY: Communities in southeast Texas are still cleaning up after a destructive storm with hurricane-like winds hit the area. The Heights neighborhood was particularly hard hit, with trees falling like dominos. One resident, Kassimer Doynov, returned home to find his 13-ton Sycamore tree uprooted by a neighbor’s falling tree. A crew had to use a crane to remove the tree, but was delayed by a hornet nest. Doynov described the storm as the most devastating he had ever experienced. Cleanup efforts are ongoing in the area. Follow Alex Bozarjian for updates on the situation.

2 arrested at pro-Palestinian protest, according to groups
SUMMARY: Hundreds gathered in downtown Austin for a pro-Palestinian demonstration, protesting the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas as well as commemorating the al-Nakba, a displacement of Palestinians in 1948. The event, organized by the Palestinian Youth Movement, aimed to show mass support for Palestinians facing what they described as an ongoing genocide. The protest was peaceful until passing the Texas Governor’s Mansion, where two protesters were arrested by DPS troopers. Despite the arrests, protesters remained determined to continue their demonstrations and return to the streets in support of the Palestinian cause. The event organizers tried to host the protest on the Capitol Lawn but were unable to secure a permit.
