New York City spent $50K to send migrants to Florida, Texas, China: report
SUMMARY: New York City spent approximately $50,000 over the course of one year to resettle 114 migrant households. The migrants were sent to different states across the U.S., including Florida and Texas, as well as other countries such as Peru, China, Ecuador, and Venezuela. This transportation program for migrants is not new and is part of the city's efforts to provide settlement options via family connections. Critics have accused Republican governors of using migrants as part of a political stunt, but city officials argue that their program is different from other states' chartered services and that they assist individuals who want to reconnect with loved ones or communities. The controversy highlights the ongoing debate over migrant transportation and the differing perspectives on immigration policies.

CapMetro is pausing purchases of new electric buses — here's why
SUMMARY: CapMetro in Austin is pausing new electric vehicle (EV) purchases due to industry-wide battery technology issues. During a June 24 meeting, the CapMetro Board discussed reliance on battery maturity and infrastructure development. Currently, EV buses run for only 8-10 hours before needing a recharge, limiting their usage to 36% of routes. CapMetro's 402-vehicle fleet includes 23 electric buses, with 87 more expected by late 2024. The pause is for transitioning to net-zero carbon emissions by 2040, considering hybrid and hydrogen fuel cell buses. The next EV bus procurement is planned for late 2024, with deliveries by late 2026.
