June shooting involving 13-year-old now being investigated as homicide

On June 25, officers responded to a shooting on Kelton Drive where 13-year-old Julian Hernandez was found shot. Initially reported as a self-inflicted wound, it was later discovered Hernandez was accidentally shot by a family member. No formal charges have been filed, and the family member's name remains undisclosed. This is Austin's 35th homicide of 2024. Police urge anyone with information to contact APD or the Capital Area Crime Stoppers, with potential rewards up to $1,000 for tips leading to an arrest.
