If someone knowingly provides fentanyl to another person and the recipient dies, the provider can face murder charges. There have been recent arrests in Austin for possession and distribution of fentanyl-laced crack, meth, and marijuana, but those individuals are not linked to recent overdose cases in the area. In other cases in Central Texas, individuals have been charged with murder for providing fentanyl that resulted in overdose deaths. Police in Austin are still investigating and trying to connect specific batches of fentanyl-laced drugs to overdose victims. Organized crime is not believed to be involved in the distribution of these drugs.
