Formerly unhoused, Kaleef Starks shares her story of being her authentic self

SUMMARY: Kaleef Starks, a black trans woman and USC Annenberg Journalism M.S. student, shared her challenges growing up and finding acceptance. Facing bullying, family rejection at 14, and homelessness, education became her escape. She and her mother struggled with homelessness, but Starks found a supportive friend in Angela M. Sanchez, with whom she experienced shelter life. Influenced by trans model Isis King, Starks began her transition at 18. After earning a degree from UCLA, she worked at Covenant House and other agencies before joining USC Annenberg on a full scholarship. Committed to representing trans women in journalism, Starks hosts the “The Stark Effect.”

Nonprofit status gives Austin School of Furniture Foundation new legs for charitable efforts

Suspect Injured Following Police Chase and Shootout in Midlothian
