Floods in southern Brazil kill at least 75 people over 7 days – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth
SUMMARY: Massive floods in southern Brazil's Rio Grande do Sul state have left at least 75 people dead, 103 missing, and 155 injured. Over 88,000 people have been evacuated from their homes, with around 16,000 seeking refuge in temporary shelters. The floods caused landslides, road damage, and collapsed bridges, leaving over 800,000 people without water supply. President Lula da Silva visited the affected areas, emphasizing the need for disaster prevention efforts. The heavy rains are attributed to El Niño, alongside the broader impact of climate change. Experts warn that without adaptation, such extreme weather events will become more frequent.
