SUMMARY: CapMetro in Austin is pausing new electric vehicle (EV) purchases due to industry-wide battery technology issues. During a June 24 meeting, the CapMetro Board discussed reliance on battery maturity and infrastructure development. CapMetro's 402-vehicle fleet includes 23 electric buses, with 87 more expected by late 2024. The pause is for transitioning to net-zero carbon emissions by 2040, considering hybrid and hydrogen fuel cell buses. The next EV bus procurement is planned for late 2024, with deliveries by late 2026.
