Daughter, son-in-law of Missouri politician killed in Haiti
SUMMARY: Missouri State Rep. Ben Baker reports that his daughter and son-in-law, Natalie and Davy Lloyd, were killed in a gang attack in Haiti. The couple, full-time missionaries with the nonprofit Missions in Haiti Inc., were ambushed along with some children after leaving a church. The gang tied up and beat Davy, looted the organization's trucks, and later killed the couple. Another individual was also killed in the attack. The nonprofit and Baker have expressed their heartbreak, calling for urgent prayers. Gangs have increasingly terrorized Haiti following the announcement of a new prime minister on April 30. The situation remains under investigation.

CapMetro is pausing purchases of new electric buses — here's why
SUMMARY: CapMetro in Austin is pausing new electric vehicle (EV) purchases due to industry-wide battery technology issues. During a June 24 meeting, the CapMetro Board discussed reliance on battery maturity and infrastructure development. Currently, EV buses run for only 8-10 hours before needing a recharge, limiting their usage to 36% of routes. CapMetro's 402-vehicle fleet includes 23 electric buses, with 87 more expected by late 2024. The pause is for transitioning to net-zero carbon emissions by 2040, considering hybrid and hydrogen fuel cell buses. The next EV bus procurement is planned for late 2024, with deliveries by late 2026.
