Suspected serial arsonist arrested in Galveston

SUMMARY: residents are able to sleep a little easier Monday night knowing an accused serial arsonist has been caught. The Galveston Fire Marshal's Office said Jason Smith is suspected of setting palm trees on fire for the past 20 years. The fires oftentimes led to larger structure fires. As of Monday night, Smith was still in jail. He was being held on a $100,000 bond for what prosecutors said was his most recent fire.

Woman dies after crews rescue 4 people from house fire on 39th Street in Galveston; 1 firefighter injured

SUMMARY: Four people were rescued from a burning home in , but one person died and a firefighter was injured. The mother, boyfriend, and one teenage daughter are in the ICU, while another daughter has been released. The fire started in the early morning, causing heavy damage to the home.
