Sparking the imagination in First-Year Seminars

SUMMARY: A new course was launched earlier this year at Johns Hopkins University's Krieger School of Arts and Sciences which sees students participate in weekly, live videoconference classes with 12 students at Massachusetts' Williams College. The course is called Citizenship and Society in the U.S., and aims to familiarise students from both campuses with intellectual discourse in higher education, as well as encouraging them to form relationships with peers and faculty. The conference content allows students to real-time research the political layout in their institution's area and to share their findings with their classmates, creating an environment for the exchange of ideas and the sharing of perspectives.

Driver charged with DWI after car plunges off Pier 21 in Galveston, no others found in car

SUMMARY: A crash at 's Pier 21 early Sunday morning led to a submerged vehicle in the harbor 30 feet underwater. The driver, 21-year-old Caleb Joseph Hayes of Dickinson, escaped and was medically cleared at UTMB Galveston. Hayes was charged with DWI. Initial reports indicated three other occupants, but police confirmed they were not in the vehicle and were safe. The Galveston Police, Port Police, Galveston Dive Team, and the U.S. Coast Guard collaborated on the search and recovery operations. No other occupants were found in the vehicle. Texas Parks and Wildlife assisted with additional searches, yielding no further victims.
