Galveston Mardi Gras 2024 street closures and parking
SUMMARY: Street closures will be in place in Galveston during Mardi Gras celebrations. The first weekend, February 2-4, will see certain streets closed from February 1st. Similar closures will be in place for the second weekend, February 9-11. Parades on February 3rd and 10th will result in additional street closures, particularly along Seawall Boulevard. On Fat Tuesday, February 13th, certain streets downtown will be closed at 5:30 p.m. Vehicle traffic will be prohibited on Seawall during parades, with increased parking fines in effect. The Galveston Police Department will remove obstacles from Seawall sidewalks and enforce parking regulations.

Driver charged with DWI after car plunges off Pier 21 in Galveston, no others found in car
SUMMARY: A crash at Galveston's Pier 21 early Sunday morning led to a submerged vehicle in the harbor 30 feet underwater. The driver, 21-year-old Caleb Joseph Hayes of Dickinson, escaped and was medically cleared at UTMB Health Galveston. Hayes was charged with DWI. Initial reports indicated three other occupants, but police confirmed they were not in the vehicle and were safe. The Galveston Police, Port Police, Galveston Dive Team, and the U.S. Coast Guard collaborated on the search and recovery operations. No other occupants were found in the vehicle. Texas Parks and Wildlife assisted with additional searches, yielding no further victims.
